Yucatan Peninsula - (09. - 19. Aug. 2002):
(The Yucatan Peninsula is a state of Mexico – and positioned at the Caribbean sea also as on the golf of Mexico and close to the Cuba island. The city Cancun is famous for beach holidays for US-tourists. And the city Merida (more in the middle of the peninsula) is its state-capital, artificially build by the Spanish conquestors – so the whole city is still colonial-stylish. Yucatan is very flat, very hot climate zone and covered by jungle, though the trees are only 15 m high, because the soil of chalk is not supporting bigger plants. Yucatan was the main-area of the Maya-reign before the Aztecs occupied it. And just short after that the conquestor came. Early Maya-buildings are dated about 600 BC.
